Women of Distinction Awards Gala
Frequently Asked Questions

Is YWCA Nutrien Women of Distinction a fundraiser?

Yes.  The YWCA Nutrien Women of Distinction is the YWCAs largest fundraising event.  For 36 years the money raised has supported our community’s most vulnerable women and children.

What is it raising funds for?

YWCA Regina serves over 7000 women and children in our community a year.  While we are best known for providing crisis services for our community’s most vulnerable women and children, we also provide education programs to young men and women and advocate for systemic change.

With the support of events such as YWCA Nutrien Women of Distinction, we are able to have a real impact on the lives of women and families. In 2016, the YWCA Regina

- housed 480 women and children at My Aunt’s Place homeless shelter

- housed over 200 women at Kikanaw second stage and long term housing centre

- housed over 200 women and children at Isabel Johnson Violence against Women shelter

- housed 125 children in YWCA Emergency and Transition homes for children

- worked with over 300 individuals in our outreach program and 80% of these women and children found stable housing

- provided quality childcare for over 300 families and wellness programs for over 250 individuals

- provided over 100 mentorship relationships for young women

- 200 youth attended Power of Being You, empowerment programs, workshops and conferences.

Good things are taking place – but so much remains to be done.  Young women continue to struggle with issues of body image, healthy relationship and self-esteem. Young men are influenced by the messages of violence and sexism that pervade advertising and entertainment. Saskatchewan has the highest reported provincial rate of domestic violence and intimate partner homicide. Women living in poverty face barriers from landlords, public services, and potential employers. And lacking space, YWCA Regina turns away more than 500 women and 800 children from our shelters each year.

Your participation as a nominator, nominee or attendee has a real impact.

With the purchase of a YWCA Nutrien Women of Distinction Gala ticket, you provide food for a woman or child for 18 days, an average stay at our shelters.

With the purchase of a raffle box at the Gala event, you fund transportation for a young girl to attend YWCA Leadership Girlspace for one year

With a bid of $300 at the Silent Auction table, you provide weekly academic support for one child for a school year through mentoring.

Who can be nominated as a YWCA Nutrien Women of Distinction?

Nominating a member of your community who identifies as a woman has a significant impact on the life of the nominee, the community that she belongs to and the future advancement of women in every sphere.
